About

The vocal group Domen was formed in 1994, when a group of boys wished to introduce male polyphonic vocal singing in their hometown. At first, their repertoire included mostly folk songs, but later more works by native and foreign composers were added.

In the following years the group received various awards, including two silver plaquettes at the Slovenian choir competition Naša pesem in 2001 and 2003. In 2001, the group also received an award for The best male choir at the same competition (Naša pesem). In 2002, they performed a series of high-profile concerts entitled Dekletu as a part of a traditional festival Jesenske serenade. The group participated in regular concerts of Zeleni abomna, where they performed with Symphonic orchestra RTV Slovenija in Cankarjev dom. The album of folk and conducted songs entitled Pod oknom was also released.

The group earned their respect among Slovenian vocal groups under Karmen Banko, who acted as an Artistic Director from the beginning in 1994 to Fall 2004. Her work was continued by Matjaž Prah until 2008. In these 4 years, the group performed numerous Christmas and concerts and contributed at Holy masses. Now the group is working with Aleksandar Spasić, one of the regular conductors at SNG Opera and Ballet, on various projects.

Domen has evolved into a band of ten male singers. Their mission is to preserve Slovenian cultural and musical heritage of male polyphonic vocal singing. They are hoping to meet the expectations of all generations with their quality singing.

	Janez Banko Voice type: 1st tenor Why VG Domen? Singing takes up a great part of my everyday life. When singing, I expect to give and get more than just learned notes, from myself as well as the others. I wanted more when I started singing with Domen. Good company, trustworthy friends and well-spent evenings are the unforgettable experiences I got.
	Matija Lampič Voice type: 1st tenor Why VS Domen? The beauty of vocal singing, friends, new acquaintances, relaxation, hard work, spiritual growth, travelling, new achievements and fun are the reasons I am a member of Vocal group Domen.
	Gorazd Arlič Voice type: 2nd tenor Why VG Domen? My fellow members in VG Domen have never let me down – I can always count on them. We have turned many normal everyday evenings into unforgettable nights together.
	Andrej Strgar Voice type: 2nd tenor Why VG Domen? Singing offers me a constant source of happiness and relaxation. Good company, hard work at singing exercises and those little rushes of adrenalin before every performance keep me in a good mental condition.
	Marko Lipužič Voice type: 2nd tenor Why VG Domen? I am a part of Domen because of singing, good company and relaxation. We have a great time with each other and if there is some singing involved, the purpose of Domen is achieved.
	Rok Lampič Voice type: baritone Why VG Domen? Good company & singing & the promotion of vocal heritage is a whole different world where I feel comfortable and relaxed. That is why I am happy that Domen exists and proud to be a part of it.
	Boris Kovačič Voice type: baritone Why VG Domen? I am a part of vocal group because I feel comfortable among this group of people and it represents a kind of relaxation for me. I prefer this concept of a vocal group – it is more flexible than a bigger choir. I also like to perform in front of people.
	Jaka Čižman Voice type: baritone Why VG Domen? I represent a singing voice of Baritone at this group. I am a part of it because I like to sing for my and other people’s pleasure. Participation in Domen represents relaxation and good socializing to me.
	Mitja Rudel Voice type: 2nd bass Why VG Domen? I am a part of Domen because I like singing and good company. I like to sing a serenade, go to a wedding or participate in a singing contest with my friends. Being with my fellow members gets me relaxed and keeps my mind off problems at work and at home, so my participation at these events is obligatory.
	Marko Kordiš Voice type: 2nd bass Why VG Domen? I am a part of Domen because of good company and my love for singing. I think this form of socializing and performing is the most appropriate way spending of my free time apart from sport.
